5 Generations Living and Working in Haverhill:
It was the early 1900's when my great grandparents immigrated to the United States from Armenia. After several years of living in New Jersey, they relocated to Haverhill and it wasn't long before they had purchased a home on Talmuth Avenue and began to live the American dream. My great grandfather, together with a great uncle, founded Haverhill's own New York Cleaners which to this day is still in operation. My grandfather worked as an engineer at the Portsmouth Navy yard before finishing his working career closer to home at the former Western Electric facility. Both of my parents have a strong background in the public sector. My father as former City Solicitor, and my mother as nurse at the Hale Hospital and in the Haverhill School system. My grandfather, as well as my father and aunt grew up in the family home and I am pleased to say that I am currently raising my children there as well. My Youth: I am very proud to say that I was born and have lived in Haverhill my entire life. I spent my first two years on Maple Avenue before moving to East Broadway and some of my earliest memories are of walks in the woods with my parents around Millvale Reservoir. Growing up I was a participant in numerous team sports including PAL soccer and baseball, Haverhill Youth Hockey, and Riveside Bradford baseball and to this day I am still friend with many of my old teammates. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University and shortly thereafter I moved back to Haverhill with my bride-to-be. My Family: I was extremely fortunate to meet my soul-mate Melanie in a a creative writing class during my junior year at CSU in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Although she took a little convincing to leave her family and home state, she eventually agreed to trade her mountains for my ocean and we moved back to Haverhill in 1997. We were married in 1999 in a backyard wedding featuring a Beatles tribute band. On July 7, 2004 we were blessed with the arrival of our son Balin and then on February 21, 2006 things really got busy when our identical twin girls, Meredith and Mallory joined the family. It has been an incredible joy to share my life with my wife and a day does not go by where I do not marvel at the satisfaction and experiences that fatherhood brings. |
